Johnsons Bayou in Cameron Parish Louisiana
Johnson Bayou is a small community located on the Creole Nature Trail along the Gulf Coast in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. It has a population of about 400 people.
Johnson Bayou has a very unique terrain formed by a deltaic sedimentation by the shifting of Mississippi River. Such a rare landscape is found only in few locations around the world.
Cameron Parish is located in southwestern Louisiana and is surrounded by five other parishes/counties including two from Texas. The parish is located along the Gulf of Mexico.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2000, Cameron Parish has a population of more than 9,000 people. The parish has a total area of 1,932 square miles with 619 square miles of water.
Cameron Parish has nine total communities. The county seat is Cameron. The parish is served by the Cameron Parish School Board for public education.
Cameron Parish is home to four national protected areas, Sabine National Wildlife Refuge, Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge, East Cove National Wildlife Refuge,Cameron Prairie National Wildlife Refuge.
